Heartwood Forest

A vast new forest of more than half a million trees, pockets of ancient woodland, wildflower meadows and fantastic wildlife spotting. It’s no surprise that the Woodland Trust's Heartwood Forest is one of our most popular destinations.

What’s more, Heartwood Forest promises to be even bigger and better in the future. Visit us today and you can go wild in the great outdoors, enjoy some fantastic walks and really get back to nature. Come back again and you’ll be rewarded with the unique chance to watch this new natural world grow all around you.

The bluebells are emerging

Bluebells are very sensitive to trampling. Be careful where you walk and please keep dogs on leads. Help us protect these precious wildflowers by staying on the wide paths, so the bluebells can take back the narrow paths.

Notice of works

Starting on Friday 19 July 2024 and lasting for about two weeks, we will be giving the path in the southeast of the Magical Wood a hard surface. This will improve accessibility, especially during periods of wet weather. The new hard surface will join onto the existing hard surfaced path and link up to the bridleway.

Heavy machines will be operating from the overflow car park to the Magical Wood, possibly during weekends. For everyone’s safety, please respect any path closures, including closure of the Magical Wood and the permissive bridleway. Be aware that machines will also use paths and bridleways that remain open for visitor access.

Please refer to the Friends of Heartwood Forest Facebook page to see a map showing where machines will operate.

Help us look after Heartwood Forest

It’s only with your help that we can continue to transform Heartwood Forest into a beautiful broadleaved woodland and natural habitat for British wildlife.
